Washington’s Energy Playbook:
What it Means for the World

The influence of US policy on energy across the world is huge, and this is evident in the fact that conversations among EnergyConsidered’s opinion leaders on this topic often appear in the mainstream media, rather than being a discussion among specialists.

The US influence is felt heavily in everything from oil and gas contracts to clean energy, and now that President Trump has taken office the balance has already begun to swing in favour of the oil and gas industry. With a majority in both the House and the Senate, as well as an incumbent in the White House, the Republican agenda is likely to be delivered on issues such as deregulation. This ability to deliver Republican policies without the delay and modification that might have been required to satisfy Democrat-majority bodies means that change could be radical and rapid, and have a global effect.

A new impetus to maximise both oil and gas extraction by fracking, and US oil and gas exports, will have global repercussions. So will the new US government’s inclination to exit international structures such as the Paris Agreement on climate change and its geopolitical relationships with countries such as Russia and China.

Washington’s Energy Playbook: What it Means for the World - Quarter 3 2024

Case for tracking:

The U.S. appears as a prominent mention throughout the 14 strategic and corporate reputation pillars. Hugely influences O&G and energy conducts throughout the world, especially because of its strong but complex foreign relations paired with its drastically fluctuating political climate.

Moreover, with the Republicans getting control of both the House and Senate, some radical changes can be expected with regards to fracking, emissions, and alt. fuels which could reflect globally. These uncertainties and their VETO power in the Paris Climate Act also make them a critical entity to track.

Washington’s Energy Playbook:
What it Means for the World
- Quarter 4 2024

Case for tracking:

Sees its peak in mentions in Q4. The U.S. appears as a prominent mention throughout the 14 strategic and corporate reputation pillars. Radical shifts seen and more expected. “America first” approach with climate with net-zero goals taking a backseat. IRA expected to remain, but with significant budget cuts. Mentions about change in LNG and net-zero goals throughout the world due to the change in leadership in America. LNG and crude oil being promoted once again.

Data-centres heavily promoted. Similar to Q2 & Q4, most of the interesting reads have to do with the unified Republicans control leading to some radical changes with regards to fracking, emissions, and alt. fuels which could reflect globally. These uncertainties, their exit from the Paris Climate Act, and their role in the Ukraine-Russia peace negotiations make them a critical entity to track.
