Captured Momentum

Captured Momentum: CCUS Moves From Pilot to Pipeline - Quarter 1 2025

Case for tracking:

Carbon Capture, Utilization, and Storage (CCUS) has emerged as a critical tool in global climate strategy, especially in hard-to-abate sectors like heavy industry and power. As opposed to our findings from Q1 2024, where most mentions of CCUS were linked to blue hydrogen, Q1 2025 sees CCUS mentions being driven by the attempt to meet global emissions goals while primarily using fossil fuels for energy.

This seems to be mostly relevant for producing relatively cleaner energy using LNG for data centres, as renewables are unable to meet the demand, with companies like Microsoft evaluating natural gas with carbon capture to power next-generation computing.
